Kaya Bagamaz is an artist, photographer and designer. When Clara saw how beautiful her work is, she couldn’t resist inviting her to join our “Carte Blanche” alumni, after our previous successful collaboration with Sebastien Notre. The resulting “liquid gardens” collection is a breathtaking imaginary vision of Le Jardin Retrouvé fragrances.

Clara, an artist herself, spoke to Kaya about her methods and processes. Everything begins on paper in 2D. Using watercolours and flat media, Kaya begins her preparation in freehand before constructing the final design. The video below shows Kaya early in the planning process of creating her “liquid garden” visuals for Le Jardin Retrouvé. As you can see, she let the perfumes themselves inspire her work, making for a full and sensory experience. Between creations, she found time to answer our questions.

What is your favourite perfume from our collection?

Definitely Sandalwood Sacré!

How did you proceed from the scent of our perfume & the history of the brand, to the final creations ?

There are a lot of languages in the world. Who said that it is impossible to translate language between sensations? For me, it’s like a translation, with its own handwriting, associations. It is a beautiful language to talk about smell.

Why did you choose the theme liquid gardens ?

Water is an amazing element, it allows you to dissolve, dream, and even float above the ground. I really like to combine the fact that the relief of water can disappear very quickly, as well as the moment when we smell a perfume. Yet, we remember both of these things well if we appreciated them very much.

Is it the 3D technology that inspires you or the products ?

Probably all together, when you learn to do something, you don’t always understand how to apply it, it’s like describing something without knowing the right words. So I just had the right words to describe the smells!

Which materials did you use (real flowers, water or is everything digital) ?

It’s all digital, but sometimes I use dried flowers and paper to better understand the compositions.

What is your personal perception of perfumes ? Why do you love perfumes ?

Because perfume is like a character, a way to show who you are. It’s like clothing, but it describes you in more detail to the people around you. I love perfume for this ability to hold people in other people’s heads and for this «open book» about a character, thanks to just a smell.
